Each year, cryotherapy brings significant advances to the battle against prostate cancer. In the past, cryotherapy was used mostly as a total gland treatment, meaning that all of the prostate gland was frozen. Today, using advanced diagnostics, many cryotherapy physicians can detect the precise location of the cancer and freeze only the part of the gland containing the cancerous tissue. This newer partial gland approach is helping to preserve the quality of life for a growing number of cryotherapy patients.
CLINICAL STUDIES & CASE STUDIES
To help you better evaluate cryotherapy, we have provided a Clinical Review Guide compiled by the International Society of Cryosurgery. The Clinical Review Guide summarizes key clinical studies that document cancer control, side effects and potency rates for cryotherapy. The data is sorted by the type of prostate cryotherapy performed, namely:
- Partial gland (meaning only a portion of the prostate was frozen during the procedure)
- Total gland (meaning all of the prostate was frozen during the procedure)
- Salvage cryotherapy (provided to men who failed radiation)
